Advanced Nurse Practitioner
Our Advanced Nurse Practitioner (ANP) is experienced and highly skilled senior nurses with advanced clinical skills. The role combines advanced nursing skills with clinical, diagnostic and treatment skills. ANPs are able to prescribe within their own clearly defined remit, and have access to GPs for advice and support and will consult them as needed. ANPs deal with patients with an acute (or short term) illness such as abdominal pain, allergies, back pain, chest infections, coughs & colds, diarrhoea & vomiting, ear infections, eye infections, emergency contraception, fever, gout, headaches & migraines, insect bites, skin problems & rashes, shingles, STDs, and urinary infections.
Practice Nurse
Our Practice Nurse provides services including Bloods & Pressure checks, Cervical Smears, Injections & Immunisations, as well as Chronic Disease Reviews including diabetes & hypertension. When asking for an appointment to see a Practice Nurse, please provide brief information about the reason for your appointment so that you are given an appointment in the appropriate clinic.

Reception
Our reception team are trained and experienced to guide you to the most appropriate Clinician. They will ask some basic questions in order to ascertain who is best to deal with your concern. All information is kept in the strictest confidence, and we ask that all our reception team are treated with respect and kindness.

Physiotherapy
We also have a in-house Physio team which provide a specialist physio service to our patients. These appointments can be booked direct with the physio and do not require a GP referral. Our physios are first contact for diagnosis and treatment for conditions such as osteoarthritis, neck and shoulder pain, low back & hip pain, sciatica, wrist & hand pain, knee & ankle pain and ligament & muscle injuries. We currently have Physio support every Wednesday and Thursday. This service is for patents aged 16 and over.

Advanced Physio Practitioner
Pharmacy
As part of the General Practice team, pharmacists make a huge difference to both patients and clinical colleagues. We are fortunate to have two pharmacists who are based in the Practice from Monday to Wednesday each week. Pharmacists deal with numerous prescription related duties including acute/non-repeat medication, new patient medication, repeat medication monitoring, and also reconciliation of hospital discharges.
District Nurses
The District Nursing team are based at Pennywell Resource Centre and provide nursing treatments and advice to the housebound and patients recently discharged from hospital. They can be contacted 7 days a week between 8am-4.30pm on 286 5044 (answer machine at times but they will get back to you).
Health Visitor
The Health Visitor can give advice and help on health care, particularly for mothers and babies, children up to school age, the elderly and the disabled. To speak to the Health Visiting team, please telephone 286 5020 between 9am to 10am Monday to Friday (answer machine at times, but leave a message and they will get back to you).
Midwife
The Midwife can give advice and help on all aspects of antenatal and postnatal care. She can be contacted by telephoning 286 5030 (24 hour answering machine service – answered daily, 7 days a week). Advice can also be given by telephoning the Midwives at Western General Hospital 537 1000. The midwife operates her clinic by appointment at the Practice every Friday morning.
